At the beginning of this year, NERC initiated the country’s second offshore wind tender for the development of a 700 MW offshore wind farm. However, in April, the process was discontinued after only one bid was submitted.
In August, Lithuania’s Ministry of Energy proposed a new auction date of 18 November. According to NERC, participants must register, submit documents, and place bids by 18 March of next year, within 120 calendar days of the auction’s start.
Bidders’ qualifications will be verified by the tender committee by 29 April 2025 at the latest, and a list of those meeting the requirements will be compiled following the evaluation of their documents.
The potential winner of the auction is expected to be announced by 2 May.
After assessing the winner’s compatibility with national security interests, the final decision is anticipated to be made by the end of June 2025, according to NERC.
Ignitis Renewables, the winner of Lithuania’s first offshore wind auction, already announced its participation in the second tender and is currently seeking a partner.
Last year, the company, together with Ocean Winds, was confirmed as the developer of the country’s first offshore wind farm.
Lithuania plans to have two offshore wind projects with a combined capacity of 1.4 GW.
