OWC has supported Kanadevia since the initial stages of the floating offshore wind project, having collaborated during the Green Innovation Fund Phase 1, which involved basic design services several times.
OWC’s role will focus on the first of several planned design iterations, with opportunities for the company to continue its support as the project progresses through its demonstration phases, said OWC.
The floating offshore wind technology will be demonstrated under the subsidy of the New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO) to commercialise floating offshore wind at cost-competitive level internationally.
The Green Innovation Fund Project, spearheaded by NEDO, is said to be a key component of Japan’s strategy to reduce the high cost of offshore wind, with floating wind technology playing a central role.
By combining the knowledge of multiple companies, the consortium, including C-Tech, Kanadevia, Kajima Corporation, Hokutaku, and Mitsui O.S.K., aims to develop the necessary technologies to make floating wind commercially viable by FY 2030, said OWC.
In regards to other news coming from OWC, the company was recently awarded a master services agreement by Taisei Corporation to provide support for the development of a floating offshore wind project in Japan.
