According to a spokesperson from Statkraft, the company “has continued ambitions to become a significant offshore wind player in Norway, even after Mainstream and Ocean Winds have decided to withdraw from the Utsira Nord competition”.
“Ocean Winds has informed Statkraft of its decision to prioritize other opportunities in its portfolio and will not participate in the upcoming Utsira Nord auction in Norway,” said a company representative to offshoreWIND.biz.
In 2021, Statkraft, Ocean Winds, and Aker Offshore Wind (now Mainstream Renewable Power) joined forces to bid on the Utsira Nord floating wind tender.
The 1.5 GW tender is planned to be launched in 2025. In March 2024, the Norwegian government revealed its plans to have the subsidy model in place and announced before allocating the Utsira Nord offshore areas for development.
Utsira Nord zone, which will host Norway’s first commercial floating offshore wind farm, has a total capacity of 1.5 GW.
