OWC Wraps Up Nederwiek Wind Assessment

Renewable energy consultancy OWC, subcontracted by DHI, has completed a wind resources assessment for the Nederwiek Wind Farm Zone in the Dutch North Sea.

The objective of OWC’s scope of work was to support DHI and the Dutch authorities in defining the wind resource potential at the identified zone to come under an upcoming competitive tender.

“Building on our proven track record of supporting offshore wind tendering processes globally, including our recent involvement in the IJmuiden Ver Alpha and Beta Wind Farm Zones, OWC continues to deliver high-quality technical and advisory services for both fixed and floating wind projects,” said Okan Sargin, OWC’s Head of Wind and Site.

“As part of the DHI team, we are proud to have contributed to the wind resource assessment for the Nederwiek Wind Farm Zone, which has been certified to meet the stringent requirements of Section 2.3.2 site condition assessment of the DNV-SE-0190:2023-03 standard.”

The Nederwiek Wind Farm Zone (NWWFZ) is located approximately 100 kilometres off the west coast of the Netherlands.

The zone is currently divided into four wind farm sites and has a total surface area of approximately 600 square kilometres.

Nederwiek Wind Farm sites IA and IB (formerly combined) will each have a capacity for 1 GW, while sites II and III will each have the capacity to accommodate 2 GW.

The tender procedure for a permit for the construction and operation of a wind farm at the first site, Nederwiek IA, is planned to be held in September 2025. The wind farm is expected to start supplying renewable energy from 2030-2031.

The tender was initially planned to offer 4 GW across two sites, IJmuiden Ver Gamma and Nederwiek I, which were later split into four 1 GW sites: IJmuiden Ver Gamma-A, IJmuiden Ver Gamma-B, Nederwiek IA, and Nederwiek IB.

Recently, the Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO) announced that the permitting procedure for the Nederwiek IB site is being postponed, meaning the upcoming tender will award 3 GW of offshore wind capacity across the three sites.
