Korea Southern Power recently confirmed it had been selected as the sole preferred bidder for the government-led project and will supply 750 GWh of electricity annually using clean hydrogen.
Commercial operations are expected to commence in 2028, with the government planning to purchase electricity over a 15-year period.
Eligible bidders were required to emit no more than 4 kilograms of CO2 equivalent per kilogram of hydrogen.
"The government will continue efforts to secure cost-effective clean hydrogen and reduce greenhouse gas emissions by collaborating closely with local industries," Park Chan-ki, director general for hydrogen economy policy, said.
"With the auction market set to open annually, we expect more companies to participate as successful cases accumulate," Park added. (Yonhap)
