ScottishPower Renewables Picks Port for East Anglia Two Pre-assembly

10 Dec 2024
ScottishPower Renewables, Iberdrola’s UK arm, has selected Peel Ports Great Yarmouth as the staging ground for pre-assembly works for its 960 MW East Anglia Two offshore wind project.

The companies have signed a reservation agreement that will see the Siemens Gamesa turbine components and sections come together for assembly at the Norfolk site before installation in the southern North Sea in 2028.

“We’re very proud that ScottishPower Renewables has once again chosen Great Yarmouth to support this huge project, having previously worked together on the East Anglia One development,” said Richard Goffin, Port Director of Peel Ports Group.

“This continued partnership reflects confidence in our port’s capabilities, facilities and team. Great Yarmouth has proved itself to be an outstanding base for the growing offshore renewables market, not just in the southern North Sea but extending further afield, including the North Sea.”

In November, Siemens Gamesa won a contract worth more than GBP 1 billion for the supply of 64 of its flagship SG 14-236 DD turbines for the East Anglia Two offshore wind farm.

The 115-metre-long blades will be manufactured at Siemens Gamesa’s offshore wind blade factory in Hull. The turbines will be installed on top of monopiles supplied by Sif.

Cadeler will install the turbines and foundations at the site located 33 kilometres off the Suffolk coast under a contract signed with the developer this year.

Offshore construction for East Anglia Two is expected to commence in 2027, with the wind farm becoming operational in 2028.

Once fully commissioned, the project is expected to generate up to 960 MW of renewable energy, enough to power the equivalent of almost one million homes, said ScottishPower Renewables.
