Elon Musk Says Tesla to Launch Electric ATV in Late 2021

12 Dec 2019  by BRIDIE SCHMIDT
The Tesla all-terrain vehicle (ATV) that was a final highlight of the Tesla Cybertruck launch in November will be available to buy in late 2021, at the same time Tesla starts deliveries of the Cybertruck, Elon Musk said on Sunday (US time).

The ATV’s appearance at the Cybertruck launch seemed like a playful afterthought on the night, as it drove up the ramp to fit neatly in the back tray. In fact, Musk almost forgot he was going to introduce it.

In the end, the electric quad-bike caused quite a stir, and with the ability to drive straight up the Cybertruck’s extendable tray gate and recharge from the battery of the electric utility (aka ute), it would certainly make a fun addition to any Tesla family.

But in the days following the Cybertruck launch, whether and when it would be available was the question on many people’s lips, and Musk initially said when answering a fan on Twitter that it would be available as an add-on extra when buying the Cybertruck.

Now, the ground-breaking entrepreneur has confirmed that a time line for the launch of the ATV will come at the same time as the Cybertruck – and it may even be available as a two-seater.

That would put a launch date for the ATV at the same time as the dual motor and tri-motor Cybertruck in late 2021.

The excitement around the electric ATV may even spawn another member of the Tesla family, says Musk.

“Two seater electric ATV designed to work with Cybertruck will be fun! Electric dirt bikes would be cool too,” Musk said via Twitter.

Not road bikes though, it seems: “We won’t do road bikes, as too dangerous. I was hit by a truck & almost died on one when I was 17.”
