Smulders has won two fabrication contracts for offshore wind farms in France and the UK.
French fabricator Chantiers de l’Atlantique has awarded the Belgian outfit an engineering, procurement and construction contract for two offshore substation jackets for the Centre Manche 1 and 2 offshore wind farms off France.
The deal was awarded by the French company actin on behalf of national TSO RTE.
Smulders will work in collaboration with Eiffage Métal on the contract.
The works will be performed at the Smulders’ production facilities in Belgium, with final assembly works to be undertaken at the Smulders yard in Vlissingen, the Netherlands. Each jacket structure will weigh approximately 7000 tonnes and support an electrical transformer substation of 1.25GW capacity.
Construction starts in 2026 with installation of the jacket for Centre Manche 1 to take place in 2029 and for Centre Manche 2 in 2030.
The Centre Manche 1 and Centre Manche 2 offshore wind farms will be located off the Normandy coast.
Smulders has meanwhile landed a contract from Orsted to fabricate and supply secondary steel components for the Hornsea 3 wind farm.
Each set includes a boat landing, ladder, anode cage and internal cages.
The majority of the work will be completed at our yard in Wallsend, Newcastle, reinforcing the company’s commitment to local expertise and innovation, it said.
