The Philippines’ Department of Energy (DoE) has launched an auction dedicated to offshore wind.
The fifth Round of the Green Energy Auction (GEA-5) is slated for the third quarter of 2025
As a cornerstone of the Philippine Energy Plan 2023-2050, GEA-5 exemplifies the government’s commitment to renewable energy deployment, energy security, and the nation’s energy transition agenda.
The GEA-5 is expected to secure market access for offshore wind developers, ensuring long-term demand for their generation capacities and serve as a timeline guide for stakeholders, including the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines, Philippine Ports Authority, Department of Environment and Natural Resources, Philippine Coast Guard, and the Local Government Units, among others.
It will also advance the Philippines' energy transition objectives, helping to diversify the country's energy mix and reduce its dependence on fossil fuels.
The DoE will soon release the Notice of Auction and Terms of Reference, outlining the timeline, procedures and guidelines for GEA-5 participation.
The Department is evaluating position papers from stakeholders to integrate valuable insights, ensuring a transparent and effective auction process.
