Qualitas Energy has acquired a wind farm undergoing repowering in Lower Saxony, Germany.

The 32-turbine wind farm, located on the German North Sea coast, has been operational since 1998.

These turbines have reached the end of their operational lifespan.

The turbine repowering process is at an advanced stage and involves the installation of five new turbines, increasing the total output from 17.2MW to 21.6MW.

This will lead to more efficient land use on site and provide sustainably generated wind power to over 14,000 households.

“This acquisition expands our wind energy portfolio with a highly promising project in an excellent wind location,” said Johannes Overbeck, head of investment at Qualitas Energy Deutschland.

He added: “Qualitas Energy is committed to a long-term strategy that seeks to identify opportunities, carefully assess risks and boldly move forward to actively contribute to accelerating the energy transition.”

This portfolio adds to the more than 100 projects managed by Qualitas Energy in the country, supporting the company’s goal of reaching a total capacity of 4GW in Germany.

This expansion is backed by an expected investment of €1.2bn from Qualitas Energy Fund V, which closed in 2022.

Qualitas Energy Deutschland, a subsidiary of Qualitas Energy, specialises in the acquisition, financing, project development, construction and operation of onshore wind turbines.
