Salunda Installing Drillfloor Alerts Service on Transocean Rig

Salunda has won a contract to install its HaloGuard zone monitoring system on the Transocean Endurance semisubmersible drilling rig in Australia.

The system combines the company’s CrewHalk real-time location technology with a machine vision system to track personnel on the drillfloor during operations.

When an individual is within a certain distance of live equipment, a wearable device will issue an alarm notification. Should the crew member remain near the equipment, the system is designed to prevent the equipment from moving until the individual has returned to a safer position farther out.

If unauthorized personnel enter the zone, the HaloGuard sends an alert to the area authority. The service works with cameras that can be mounted closely to the drillfloor.

The Transocean Endurance rig installation will also be Salunda’s first deployment of its next-generation AI server, a combined sensor and machine vision fusion, with fully IECEx Zone 1-certified Orbs (3D ranging cameras). Earlier this year, Salunda also won a multi-year contract to install its Crew Hawk Red Zone monitoring service on a jackup rig in the Middle East.

And back in 2021, Transocean has deployed the HaloGuard on the Deepwater Conqueror drillship, which was operating for Chevron in the Gulf of Mexico.
