Located mostly in North Dakota but stretching into South Dakota, Montana and Canada, the Basin had 37 active rigs, an increase of one over the past week.
According to Baker Hughes, the only other change in drilling activity in oil and gas plays was the Eagle Ford of South Texas. Its count declined one to 45 rigs. Otherwise, the Permian basin was unchanged at 304. The Haynesville remained at 31 rigs.
The Cana Woodford was unchanged with a count of 20. The Arkoma Woodford remained at one rig while the Ardmore Woodford continued with no reported rig activity, based on the Baker Hughes rig report.
The Barnett play of north Texas stayed at two rigs and the D-J Basin in northern Colorado and southern Wyoming remained at 7 rigs.
The Granite Wash in western Oklahoma and the Texas Panhandle continued with 8 rigs. The count of 24 rigs in the Marcellus play was the same as a week earlier. And the Mississippian, which had gone for weeks without any reported drilling activity, at least according to the Baker Hughes count, continued with one rig.
The Utica play also stayed at 10 rigs.
