Under a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA), TRIG will provide power for Qair France’s project in Port-la Nouvelle, which is currently being constructed and planned to be commissioned this year.
Supplying electricity from its wind farms in the Occitanie region will act as another step towards TRIG’s ambitions of a “cleaner, more secure future,” according to its Managing Director, Minesh Shah.
“Entering into attractive PPAs is an important part of TRIG’s revenue management strategy,” he said. “Supplying projects such as Hyd’Occ with locally generated, renewable electricity is another step towards our ambition of a cleaner, more secure future.”
The project, being developed by Qair France and AREC Occitanie, is expected to initially produce 3,000 tonnes of green hydrogen per year.
Stéphane Péré, Managing Director at AREC, added, “[The deal] secures the supply of renewable electricity for the production of renewable hydrogen, advancing the green hydrogen plan of the Occitanie region.”
H2 View understands that the initiative will be the largest renewable hydrogen production facility in France, generating 40% of the country’s hydrogen.
Several factors have led to the Occitanie region becoming one of the leading areas for hydrogen production in France, highlighted by a consortium of partners announcing plans to develop a low-carbon hydrogen hub at Port-la Nouvelle last October.
