Signing of contract between the Brzesko commune and Geotermia Polska
Following a tender, Warwaw-based Geotermia Polska Sp. z o.o has been assigned as the Contract Engineer of the planned geothermal project in the commune of Brzesko in Poland. The document was signed by the mayor of Brzesko, Tomasz Latocha, and the company’s president, ?ukasz Bia?czak, representing the contractor.
Among the duties of the contractor is the preparation of the documentation needed for the public procurement process to select a drilling company, performance of laboratory tests, preparation of hydrogeological documentation of the proejct, and the preparation of the documentation for the settlement of the project with the National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management.
With this progress, the results of geothermal research is now expected no later than October 2026.
The decision to start developing geothermal resources in Brzesko was made by the local government back in 2020. By July 2021, a detailed analysis for the selection of the drilling location had been completed. The application for a drilling license was then submitted by September 2021. The goal is to drill a 2-kilometer test well.
On November 2023, the Ministry of Climate and Environment announced that the geothermal project in Brzekso will receive funding of over PLN 13.7 million from the National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management. The agreement for the financing was thus signed on September 2024.
Brzesko was one of two sites identified by the National Environmental Protection Fund as having the highest geothermal potential in the Malopolska province. The other site is in Krakow. As a result, the city became on of 28 beneficiaries of funding for geothermal exploration drilling.
