To maximize land and resource efficiency while addressing grid constraints, the Bosco plant connects to an existing RWE substation in Partinico. This substation already channels electricity from nearby RWE wind farms into the grid. To ensure compatibility with the local environment, a wildlife-friendly fence was installed, allowing small animals like foxes and rabbits to move freely underneath. Sufficient clearance exists between the ground and the fence’s lower edge to facilitate this passage. This step demonstrates RWE’s focus on supporting biodiversity in its renewable energy projects.
Katja Wunschel, CEO of RWE Renewables Europe & Australia, stated: “With the commissioning of Bosco, our first solar plant in Italy is up and running, with more projects to come. Solar is a perfect match for our growing wind fleet in Italy, as solar and wind complement each other perfectly as their production patterns naturally balance each other. Bosco is a flagship project in the field of efficiency, both in terms of the permitting process and grid access. We look forward to the next milestones in our journey to support a clean, stable and cost-effective energy future for Italy.”
The Bosco plant represents a milestone for RWE in expanding its renewable energy presence in Italy. By integrating solar power with its existing wind operations, the company aims to enhance energy stability in the region. The project’s design reflects a practical approach to resource use, leveraging established infrastructure to deliver sustainable electricity. The focus on biodiversity further aligns the initiative with environmental considerations, ensuring minimal disruption to local wildlife. With this development, RWE continues to build toward a broader renewable energy framework in Italy, with additional projects planned for the future.
