New Rise Renewables Commences SAF Production

26 Feb 2025  by Biomass Magazine
XCF Global Capital Inc. announced on February 24, 2025, that New Rise Renewables LLC has started producing neat sustainable aviation fuel (SAF). The company has secured an irrevocable corporate purchase order to sell over 3 million gallons of neat SAF to a third-party buyer. Initial shipments are scheduled to begin this month, with delivery expected in early March.

Mihir Dange, CEO of XCF, stated: “Reaching commercial production at New Rise is an exciting milestone, reflecting years of dedication, engineering excellence, and our commitment to innovation. We are proud to begin customer deliveries and provide high-quality SAF that supports the decarbonization of the aviation industry.”

New Rise Renewables disclosed in April 2024 that it had begun converting its renewable diesel plant near Reno, Nevada, into a SAF production facility. The company’s website indicates the plant can produce 3,000 barrels per day (46.02 million gallons per year) of synthetic blending component for SAF.

The facility, originally a 3,200 barrel per day (49.06 million gallons per year) renewable diesel plant, started operating in mid-2022. Located on a 10-acre site at the Reno-Tahoe Industrial Complex in Storey County, Nevada, it features a 16-car heated rail spur, over 5 million gallons of storage capacity, co-generation, off-gas energy recovery, water recovery, and advanced technologies including hydrotreating, hydrogen reforming, feedstock pretreatment, and wastewater treatment, as per company details.

The project received backing from a loan guarantee under the USDA’s 9003 Biorefinery, Renewable Chemical and Biodiesel Production Manufacturing Assistance Program, facilitated by Greater Commercial Lending. A 2017 USDA statement noted the facility was then being developed as Ryze Renewables Reno LLC.

The plant faced two prior acquisition deals that did not proceed. In January 2023, Camber Energy announced a membership interest purchase agreement with RESC Renewables Holdings LLC to acquire New Rise Renewables LLC, which owned New Rise Renewables Reno LLC, but the deal ended on March 13, 2024. Earlier, in December 2021, Viking Energy Group Inc., a subsidiary of Camber Energy, entered a similar agreement to acquire the Reno plant’s developing companies, though that transaction also fell through.

Documents filed with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission show that in December 2023, RESC agreed to transfer all membership interests of New Rise Renewables Reno LLC to XCF Global Capital via a membership interest purchase agreement. XCF finalized the acquisition on February 19, 2025.

The facility’s shift to SAF production marks a step toward sustainable energy solutions, with operations now underway to meet the agreed supply commitments.
