The new plant will have a production capacity of 1 million tons of green ammonia per year. The final investment decision (FID) is expected for 2027-2028, with production of the first green molecules starting in 2030. With this new agreement, the Port of Açu further strengthens its role in Brazil’s energy transition, consolidating itself as a strategic hub in the low-carbon chain.
“Porto do Açu is advancing the energy transition theme by developing its integrated platform for the low-carbon economy. The arrival of Sempen places us as a leader in projects for the production of green hydrogen and ammonia in the country,” said Mauro Andrade, Executive Director of Business Development at Prumo Logística.
Açu offers one of the best infrastructures in the country to sustainably support the decarbonization of the industry , with deep draft, available land with direct access to the dock and a service cluster that brings together multiple port and maritime support providers.
“We are the first port in the country to license a 1 million m² hydrogen and low-carbon derivatives hub, and we are currently licensing a new 2 million m² area to expand our operations. Sempen will be allocated to this new hub, and its partnership with us is another step towards establishing Açu as a hub for sustainable energy solutions, reflecting our commitment to innovative projects that contribute to the global energy transition,” added the CEO of the Port of Açu, Eugenio Figueiredo.
