Thidade Eiamsai, EGAT Deputy Governor for Power Plant Development and Renewable Energy, shared that the project will generate 158 MWac. It aligns with Thailand’s targets of carbon neutrality by 2050 and net zero emissions by 2065. The floating solar panels will be placed on the Bhumibol Dam reservoir, with operations set to start in 2027.
Companies interested in participating can submit sealed bids, which are slated to be opened on July 14, 2025, though this date could shift. The project falls under Thailand’s Power Development Plan 2018-2037 (PDP2018 Revision 1) and will be included in the forthcoming updated plan.
EGAT has broader ambitions to expand floating solar projects across the country, aiming for a total capacity of 2,725 MW by 2030. These efforts will pair solar energy with existing hydropower facilities, reducing costs and enhancing clean energy supply while keeping environmental effects minimal. The Bhumibol Dam project marks a practical step toward these objectives, blending renewable technologies in Tak Province to support Thailand’s sustainable energy future.
