ALSHSN stands out as China’s first 300 bar Type II hydrogen facility, backed by a RMB 180 million investment. It represents a vital step forward in hydrogen energy infrastructure for Shanghai and the Yangtze River Delta region. The facility will supply high-pressure hydrogen to transportation clients, with an initial capacity of 12 tons daily, supporting 12 refueling stations and over 1,000 medium-to-heavy-duty trucks each day. This boosts the region’s hydrogen supply reliability and encourages hydrogen-powered transport adoption. Industrial customers will also benefit from the supply.
The hydrogen comes from a CO2 recycling process at SCIPIG, an Air Liquide subsidiary, with biomethane sourced from Shenergy for part of the production. ALSHSN introduces 300 bar Type II trailers, a first in China, increasing payload by over 60% and cutting transport emissions compared to 200 bar trailers, while tapping into Air Liquide’s robust Eastern China hydrogen network.
Hydrogen is central to China’s energy transition, supporting national climate goals. Shanghai aims to peak carbon emissions by 2025, ahead of the country’s 2030 target, with 5,000 hydrogen fuel cell vehicles and 18 refueling stations in place by February 2025. Ruan Li stated: “SCIP will remain dedicated to supporting the growth of enterprises in the park, fostering a more business-friendly environment, and providing efficient management services.” Shi Pingyang added: “Shenergy is steadfast in its commitment to driving the energy transition with hydrogen as a key enabler.” Rui Coelho noted: “The commissioning of ALSHSN demonstrates Air Liquide’s expertise in building hydrogen infrastructure and reinforces our strong partnerships with local players, in this case Shenergy and SCIP, to drive the energy transition in China.”
This facility enhances Shanghai’s hydrogen efforts, delivering low-carbon solutions for cleaner mobility and industrial use, aligned with regional sustainability goals.
