JinkoSolar’s TOPCon Technology Empowers Australia’s 10GW Off-Grid Hydrogen Production Project, Setting a New Benchmark for Green Hydrogen Costs

JinkoSolar, a top global supplier of photovoltaic (PV) and energy storage systems (ESS), has entered into a strategic partnership with Climate Impact Corporation (CIC) to provide high-efficiency N-type TOPCon solar modules for the 10GW "Green Springs" project in Australia. This off-grid hydrogen production initiative, located in the Northern Territory, aims to become one of the largest green hydrogen production hubs in the Southern Hemisphere. JinkoSolar’s advanced technology will supply power to the project, reducing the levelized cost of electricity (LCOE) through its superior per-watt output, all-weather reliability, and increased energy generation.

CIC’s innovative off-grid modular green hydrogen technology is central to "Green Springs." JinkoSolar’s N-type TOPCon modules enhance this system by offering a high bifacial ratio and excellent power generation efficiency. Their ability to perform well in low-light conditions and maintain stability across varying temperatures ensures consistent operation for hydrogen production equipment. This boosts annual power generation hours and lowers electricity costs, making green hydrogen more affordable. CIC selected JinkoSolar for this cost-competitive advantage, vital to the project’s success.

The "Green Springs" initiative targets a 10GW capacity for green hydrogen production. Through the “PV + Hydrogen” approach, the collaboration between JinkoSolar and CIC is expected to cut carbon emissions by over 10 million tons yearly. This model supports global efforts toward industrial decarbonization, offering a zero-carbon solution for energy-intensive sectors aiming for carbon neutrality. The project showcases how integrating PV and hydrogen technologies can optimize energy use and improve economic outcomes.

Looking ahead, JinkoSolar and CIC plan to extend their partnership to other regions, delivering solutions for grid management, energy storage, and clean energy use. JinkoSolar, headquartered in China with 14 production bases worldwide, including in the U.S., Malaysia, and Vietnam, leads the solar industry with over 150GW of module shipments by early 2023. The company serves more than 3,000 customers across 160+ countries and has topped global module shipments from 2016 to 2019. By year-end 2023, its production capacity for mono wafers, solar cells, and modules is projected to reach 75GW, 75GW, and 90GW, respectively.

With over 1,000 R&D staff, JinkoSolar drives innovation in photovoltaic applications, including hydrogen production and energy storage, fostering a sustainable energy ecosystem. Listed on the Shanghai Stock Exchange’s STAR Board in 2022, and with its controlling shareholder on the New York Stock Exchange since 2010, the company continues to shape the renewable energy landscape globally.
