The development secured planning approval in the final quarter of 2024, with energy production slated to begin by the fourth quarter of 2026. This timeline aligns with efforts to bolster renewable energy capacity in the region. The initiative supports the Welsh government’s goal of meeting 100% of its electricity needs through renewable sources. Additionally, the land will remain productive, as sheep grazing will continue alongside the solar panels.
Taiyo, formed in 2021 as a collaboration between Kajima Partnerships and Low Carbon Alliance, focuses on developing solar and energy storage projects across the UK. This sale marks its second UK project to gain planning consent and be transferred to Infinis. Chris Gill, Taiyo director and managing director at Kajima Partnerships, said: “As our second UK project to achieve planning consent and subsequently sold to Infinis, this scheme in Gowerton represents yet another milestone in Kajima’s strategy to deliver renewable energy across the UK.” He emphasized the company’s dedication to expanding solar assets to enhance energy resilience and lower costs for communities.
Simon Crowe, Taiyo director and managing director at Low Carbon Alliance, highlighted the project’s broader impact, stating: “Solar power is vital to decarbonising the grid. Projects like Gowerton are central to building a sustainable future, providing affordable, secure, and independent energy while advancing the UK’s commitment to reaching net zero by 2050.” Infinis, the buyer, strengthens its growing solar portfolio with this acquisition. Andrew Leeding, director of development and construction at Infinis, said: “We are delighted to have secured the Gowerton project, further bolstering Infinis’ rapidly growing solar portfolio and furthering our commitment to continued investment in renewables.”
The Gowerton project contributes to the UK’s 2030 clean power objectives, reflecting a shared focus on sustainable energy solutions. By integrating solar generation with battery storage and agricultural use, Parc Solar Caenewydd demonstrates a balanced approach to land and resource management while advancing environmental goals.
