Oxford PV, a specialist in perovskite solar technology, has entered into a patent licensing agreement with Trina Solar, a major solar module manufacturer based in China. This deal allows Trina Solar to produce and sell photovoltaic products utilizing perovskite technology within China. It also grants Trina Solar the ability to sublicense this technology to other entities.

Oxford PV positions itself as a frontrunner in perovskite-silicon tandem solar technology, boasting a robust global patent portfolio in this field. The company has achieved notable efficiency milestones with its perovskite tandem modules, which are now being shipped commercially. Production is underway at its facility in Brandenburg, Germany, marking a step toward broader market availability.

According to Oxford PV, this licensing agreement with Trina Solar highlights the readiness of perovskite photovoltaics to shape the future of solar energy. It reinforces the company’s central role in the perovskite technology landscape. The partnership also signals a rising acknowledgment of intellectual property and patents in China, facilitating the rapid rollout of high-efficiency solar solutions at a gigawatt scale.

Oxford PV retains the financial benefits of its leadership in perovskite technology, planning to pursue additional licensing deals and expand high-volume manufacturing. This strategy aims to solidify its influence in the global solar market while advancing the adoption of its innovations.

David Ward, Chief Executive of Oxford PV, emphasized the significance of the agreement: “This agreement is a milestone in our mission to make perovskite PV mainstream and affirms the pivotal role of patents in the photovoltaics of today and the future. We are delighted that Trina Solar, one of the world’s leading solar manufacturers, will be able to offer our technology to the Chinese market.” He also invited other companies interested in licensing the technology outside China to reach out: “We encourage other parties interested in a license outside of China to contact us.”

The collaboration between Oxford PV and Trina Solar underscores the growing commercial potential of perovskite-based solar solutions. By combining Oxford PV’s technological expertise with Trina Solar’s manufacturing and market reach, the agreement supports the broader deployment of efficient renewable energy options, contributing to sustainable energy advancements.
