On April 9, 2025, Wuhan NIO Energy Co., Ltd. (NIO Power) entered into a strategic partnership with Jining Hi-Tech Holding Group in Jining city, Shandong province, as announced on NIO’s Weibo account. The agreement aims to enhance new energy vehicle infrastructure across Shandong by jointly establishing 50 NIO Power Swap stations.

Jining Hi-Tech Holding, a state-owned entity managed by the Jining High-tech Industrial Development Zone, will collaborate with NIO Power to develop and manage charging and battery swap facilities. The partnership also explores opportunities in energy storage and battery repurposing technologies, supporting sustainable energy solutions in the region.

NIO reported that, as of April 9, it had installed 3,249 battery swap stations nationwide, with 978 located along highways. The company also operates 4,488 charging stations and 25,990 charging piles, integrating over 1.211 million third-party chargers into its network. NIO’s expressway battery swap system spans 9 north-south and 9 east-west highways, plus 14 major urban clusters, forming a comprehensive infrastructure network.

In addition to expanding its own facilities, NIO has forged interoperability agreements with multiple automakers. Its charging network now connects with brands like Xiaomi EV, AVATR, Chery, Dongfeng MHERO, Harmony Intelligent Mobility Alliance, Hongqi, DEEPAL, AION, IM Motors, Zeekr, Lotus, Cadillac, Buick, and XPENG, broadening access for electric vehicle users.

Earlier, in March 2025, NIO signed a strategic deal with CATL to create the world’s largest battery swap network. The collaboration focuses on standardizing battery technologies and advancing the new energy vehicle sector. CATL will invest up to 2.5 billion yuan in NIO Power as part of this agreement. Future models from NIO’s sub-brand FIREFLY will adopt CATL’s “Choco-Swap” standard, and both companies plan to implement a dual-network approach to improve the efficiency and convenience of battery swapping.

This partnership with Jining Hi-Tech Holding Group aligns with NIO’s broader efforts to strengthen electric vehicle infrastructure and promote sustainable energy use. By combining local expertise with its extensive network, NIO aims to meet growing demand in Shandong province while supporting regional development in the new energy sector. The collaboration reflects a shared commitment to advancing clean transportation solutions through innovative infrastructure and technology.
