The Blyth Battery supports Neoen’s Goyder South Stage 1 wind farm by providing 70MW of renewable baseload power to BHP.
Located in South Australia, the Blyth Battery supports Neoen’s Goyder South Stage 1 wind farm by delivering 70MW of renewable baseload power. It also provides additional services to Australia’s national electricity market, meeting all performance standards set by the Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO) and ElectraNet. The system enhances grid reliability and supports the region’s transition to sustainable energy.
Jean-Christophe Cheylus, CEO of Neoen Australia, highlighted the project’s significance, stating: “Blyth Battery is a great example of Neoen’s continuing commitment to grid stability and reliability in South Australia. We are proud to lead the state’s battery storage market and are excited to start supporting BHP under our innovative renewable energy baseload contract.” He added: “We appreciate the dedication from and close collaboration with the teams at NHOA Energy & Elecnor, whose work has been essential in helping us meet this project milestone.”
NHOA Energy will oversee the battery’s operations and maintenance under a long-term agreement with Neoen, ensuring consistent performance. A dedicated team of skilled professionals will manage the system to maintain its reliability and efficiency for the national grid.
Lucie Kanius-Dujardin, Global Managing Director of NHOA Energy, emphasized the project’s success, saying: “We fulfilled our performance commitment to Neoen and its lenders, on time and on budget. This is what matters, in a scenario where energy storage systems become the cornerstone of grid stability, security and an affordable and sustainable energy supply.” She further noted: “The successful commissioning of Blyth Battery is a testament to the dedication and expertise of our team and partners, and to our ability to serve clients globally.”
In a separate achievement, Neoen secured seven solar and agrisolar projects in France, totaling 164 megawatts peak, awarded by the French Energy Regulation Commission. These projects strengthen Neoen’s presence in France’s ground-mounted solar sector, bringing its total capacity in the country to over 2.5 gigawatts. The Blyth Battery and Neoen’s broader initiatives reflect a shared commitment to advancing renewable energy and supporting sustainable development worldwide.
