ContourGlobal has inaugurated the Quillagua photovoltaic solar plant, with 221 MWp of installed generation capacity and 1.2 GWh of energy storage
The Quillagua site includes 221 MW of solar power generation and a 200 MW/1.2 GWh battery energy storage system (BESS). ContourGlobal notes that it is the largest solar-plus-storage project in Latin America, providing clean energy to the region.
Alongside Quillagua, ContourGlobal acquired the Víctor Jara solar-plus-storage site in Chile’s Tarapacá region from Spanish developer Grenergy late last year. This project features 231 MW of solar capacity and a 1.3 GWh BESS. The developer stated that Víctor Jara is progressing well and expected to be completed this year, ahead of schedule.
Once operational, the two plants will together generate nearly 1.3 TWh of clean energy annually. These initiatives mark ContourGlobal’s entry into Chile’s renewable energy market, supporting the country’s sustainable energy goals.
A ContourGlobal spokesperson said: “We are excited to launch Quillagua and move forward with Víctor Jara, delivering reliable clean energy to Chile and contributing to a sustainable future.”
These projects strengthen Chile’s renewable energy infrastructure, ensuring a stable power supply for local communities while promoting environmentally friendly energy sources. ContourGlobal highlighted its dedication to advancing innovative energy solutions through these efforts.
