Four persons were booked on Tuesday for allegedly mixing cheap quality of coal with the coal supply meant for Nirma Cement Factory in Bhavnagar.
Police said the accused, godown owner Hitesh Patel along with three drivers Gemera Ram, Chetansinh Hatila and Bhavesh Patel, allegedly committed the crime.
The coal was imported from Australia by Narayani Coal Pvt Ltd and it was sold to Nimra Cement Factory. However, for the last six months, the officials at Nirma Cement Factory had been complaining of receiving coal of low quality, following which the authorities at Narayani Coal Pvt Ltd decided to investigate into the matter.
“The officials kept a watch on the trucks carrying coal supply and found that one of the trucks had gone to Dayanand Cotton Industry. The officials found that the coal supply was mixed with cheaper quality of coal there, following which they lodged a complaint against the accused,” said L B Bagada, sub-inspector with Tankara police station.
