January 15 (Renewables Now) - Spanish firm Energia, Innovacion y Desarrollo Fotovoltaico, or EDF Solar, will install a 700.4-kWp rooftop photovoltaic (PV) system for local seafood company Fandicosta.

The PV system’s 1,751 solar panels of 400 Wp each are being mounted on the roof of Fandicosta's headquarters located in Moana town, Pontevedra province. Once completed, the solar array will be capable of generating about 888,722 kWh per year of electricity that will be consumed on-site, the Spanish renewable energy company said Tuesday.

According data from Spain's Association of Refrigeration, Logistics and Distribution (ADELFE), energy accounts for 33% of the logistics expenses of frozen food companies. The new solar system will help Fandicosta reduce daytime energy consumption by more than 17%.

Fandicosta will also reduce its carbon footprint by offsetting more than 374 tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2) per year with the rooftop system.
