March 10- Solar farms in the Brazilian Northeast recorded peak generation of 1,378 MW this past Friday, at 1204 local time, for a new regional record, the National Electric System Operator (ONS) announced.
This is the 6th time the region broke its generation record this year alone and the first for this month. The region announced four records on February -- at 1,357 MW, 1,330 MW, 1,325 MW and 1,257 MW -- while the first one for 2020 was on January 16 with 1,232 MW of peak generation.
According to data from ONS, the volume produced by photovoltaic (PV) farms accounted for 11.8% of the region's load when the record was set.
Last month, Brazilian solar power plants generated 623 average megawatts (MWa), a 28% year-on-year increase, shows the Power Trading Chamber (CCEE)'s InfoMercado Semanal, the weekly bulletin for energy generation and consumption.
