Italy's biggest regional utility A2A said on Thursday it would stop using coal at its power plant in the northern town of Brescia with immediate effect.
The utility, which had previously aimed at phasing out the use of coal at the plant in October 2022, said the decision would help supply security since the COVID-19 pandemic had created uncertainty over delivery of coal shipments.
Italy's ruling coalition is looking to phase out the use of coal at power plants in Italy by 2025.
