“We are working to achieve the level of oil production at the Kashagan field up to 450,000 barrels per day by 2022. We are also working on a project to build a gas processing plant and modernize compressors,” the minister said.

According to him, energy ministry together with contractors is working on a roadmap for the second stage of the Kashagan field. “The construction of a gas processing plant with a capacity of 1 billion cubic metres in the contract period will additionally provide about 8 million tonnes of oil,” Nogayev said.

On April 14, the Kazakh energy minister said that in the first quarter of this year, oil production in Kazakhstan increased by 2.6% compared to the same period in 2019 and amounted to 23.6 million tonnes. Moreover, Kazakhstan took commitments to reduce daily oil production by 390,000 barrels under the OPEC + agreement, which provides for a collective reduction in oil production by 9.7 million barrels per day in May-June this year.

Kashagan is a large offshore oil and gas field of Kazakhstan which is located in the northern part of the Caspian Sea with oil reserves of 6 billion tonnes of oil.
