Chinese electric vehicle and battery manufacturer BYD is negotiating with Jaguar Land Rover on battery production and supply. Jaguar Land Rover CEO Ralph Schweder has previously stated that the UK needs to produce its own batteries. Therefore, BYD is considering building a battery factory in the UK. The source said that Britain will be BYD's first battery plant in Europe, but the company is also considering other European factories.
The source added that Jaguar Land Rover and BYD are also investigating whether to cooperate in the development of electric propulsion technology, which will be part of the battery supply agreement.
